Since we arrived in San Miguel de Allende in mid-January, it seems like every day is chockful of activities. From taking up Pickleball (and who isn’t?) to Michael relearning Bridge, to Scrabble on Mondays, Rummikub on Tuesdays, Cribbage on Saturdays, volunteering at the local animal shelter twice a week, language lessons and spending time with friends, there is never a dull moment. For us, the weather, the people, and all of these agreeable activities are what brings us back year after year.
And also keeps me from sitting down to write another blog! There isn’t much news to share about our life in San Miguel that I haven’t blogged about already. We returned to the same house for the 5th time and had a foster cat by the second week. We just picked up where we left off last winter with the addition of Pickleball and Michael doing his level best to break into the close-knit Duplicate Bridge community here. He’s almost there.
On Saturday, we are taking a break for a one-week trip to The Modern Elder Academy in Baja sur Mexico. I have written about our 2020 visit to M.E.A. in a previous blog - so you know it’s a magical place for us.
This time, we are participating in a workshop called Reframing Retirement: Thriving in the Next Phase of Your Life. In part because we are ready for something new as we close in on ten years of full-time travel. Ironically, many people want to do what we’ve done when they retire. And here we are, pondering what life might be like post-Senior Nomads. I guess we are re-reframing our retirement.
After our week in Baja, we will come back to San Miguel for two weeks before we leave for France, where we move into a lovely little rental house for three months in the village of Samois-sur-Seine, where our daughter and her family live. Our place is a five-minute walk from their front door. Now that will be worth writing about!
So until we’ve spent some time in Samois, I will take a hiatus from a regular blog. I will post more often on our Senior Nomads Facebook page and @theseniornomads Instagram page. And also, on our ever-growing Senior Nomads Facebook Group Page - we just reached 6,000 members! As I said, people really want to do this when they retire…
Thank you, as always, for following along,
Debbie and Michael Campbell
